By Yvonne Dueno | September 18, 2007
Question: Which occasions are elegant updos best suited for? How can I make elegant updos on myself with out having to go to a salon? Can I wear elegant updos to the office?
Answer: An elegant updo is easier to achieve than you might assume. Since versatility is one of the elegant updos main character, and elegance is based on opinion, I would say undoubtedly; any occasion is suited for sporting elegant updos.

Elegant updos are ideal for weddings and proms but can also be perfectly worn at a ch
urch function, at the office, or even at a picnic coupled with a pretty summer dress gown from off the shoulder to halter strap from above the knee to ankle length will be complimented beautifully with an elegant updo. You can wear a fabulous retro dress and pair it perfectly with a soft and elegant updo.
In my professional opinion, how you dress your updos is what will make a difference on the level of elegance that you might be seeking. You can jazz up your do with jewels, rhinestone bobby pins, flowers, or any choice of hair accessories that will add that extra sparkle or shine and elegance.
Predictions are that soft, loose curls are going to be in fashion in 2007, but opting for an elegant updo is always going to be in fashion and is a look that isn’t going to date when you’re looking back at your photo album in years to come. Combining your elegant updos with some soft curls falling towards the back or softly around the face are a good idea for keeping in step with the new.
Many of the more elegant updo styles start or finish with a ponytail. This technique makes for a great opportunity for any one to learn how to create an elegant updo on themselves. The most important thing about creating an elegant updo is to have your hair in the perfect condition to style it. Learning the right technique takes patience and creativity, but is worth the effort.
The French Twist is a simple, elegant updo hair style with endless variations for flair and personalization. Twist your hair into an elegant updo, insert your favorite bloom, and voila, flowers and accessories are a perfect way to top off an elegant updo, dressy ponytail, hold back some curls or adorn any style.
You can create a bun by simply pulling your hair back into a ponytail shape, and then twisting it until it sits on your head in a bun shape. An elegant updo or the most stylish hairdos do not have to be fancy at all, but elegantly simple, swept up at the back or top of the head and held together with a twist or clips and barrettes.
Tease your hair lightly at the crown before pulling it into a French Twist. Add a few drops of shine serum product before twisting hair into place to give your elegant updos a polished look. Knowing how to do a basic twist will help you create sophisticated styles for any event. Short hair is difficult to roll though there are some variations and half twists that may be suitable. The basic twist can be rolled in about 10 minutes once you are experienced with the technique. At first, your results may not look professional or even recognizable, but after experimenting with how to tuck the roll into a sleek twist, you will find the method that works best for your style preferences. Remember to use plain bobby pins to secure a twist and add any accessory you feel fit.

This is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to learn to braid hair in a wide variety of styles. It includes information on the basics of working with long hair as well as 20 different braids.
Though geared toward those in the hairstyling industry, it is simple enough for anyone to use. My husband who has never done any hairstyling was even able to do the simpler ones in just a few trys.
The braids are arranged in order from easier to hardest. Written directions along with step-by-step illustrations showing hand positions are included. Each braid section is also shown in different shaded patterns.
Some braid & ponytail styles include fishtail, rope, Dutch, knotting, twisting, bowtie, overlap updo and many French styles.
