Answer: As you may not currently realize; flat irons of today are used by both women and even to an ever increasing degree men. Both sexes are taking advantage of the technology found in most quality flat irons to achieve the hair style they have always wanted. 1. Be sure to clean your hair first. I realize this seems all too obvious but it’s importance is often over looked. If you attempt to straighten your hair before cleaning and removing chemical buildups you will run the risk of damaging your hair or at least not achieving the desired effect. The main reason your hair must be dirt and chemical free is that the flat irons surface cooks the dirt and grease and literally deep fries your hair. Yuck!

2. Use a modern ceramic flat iron on your hair. Please don’t try to be cheap or honor you grandmother’s legacy and use a regular old school iron. This is HIGHLY not recommended as the older hair irons will only singe your hair which will cause damage in varying degrees 99% of the time.

Some so called experts say that it is ok to use a hair dryer for ten to fifteen minutes to dry your hair (blasphemy)! I do realize some of you are in a hurry and are running late for your night on the town; so if you must use a hair dryer absolutely use the cold or no heat setting. Once your hair is dry the rest is quite simple. As a stylist I would like to tell you that achieving great looking straight hair with a quality ceramic hair flat iron is rocket science or is due to my great skills; but I can’t. The secret is really in the tools; that is how you get the fantastic results, no great skills required.
