Olivia’s Question:
I have long hair which I am going to donate to “Locks of Love” and at the same
time I want to get a nice hairstyle, like Katie Holmes. My Hair Type is
straight, thick but with a wave. The Hairstyle I want is the one the Katie
Holmes has. My question is: In order to maintain that sleek and straight,
should I do a relaxer or not? Please help!!!
Answer:
Hi Olivia,
Thanks for writing in your question; I’m glad you did. I hope I am not too late to advise you not to have any sought of chemical relaxer done to your hair after you cut it.
Katie Holmes natural hair is also thick and wavy, she has a travel stylist that goes with her every where and works it hard baby: Maybe we might be as fortunate as to have someone fixing our hair at any given time one day but until then, we will have to make wise choices. Writing in your question was a wise choice.
Let me just take this opportunity to congratulate you on such a noble and generous gesture of giving your hair to Locks of Love. I have met many women in the industry that have been in great need for such a gift and what you are doing is admirable to say the least.
As far as your hair is concerned, I believe that you can sport it both straight and sleek at times by using the flat irons and lotions that are made for it and you can also ware it full and waving with a little curl activator or leave in conditioner.
Try and allow your self to be versatile. If your get your hair relaxed, you will be forced to keep it tailored to that look all the time not to mention that you run the risk of damaging your hair and maybe even hating it totally.
Remember whether you relax it or not, you still have to style it after every wash. I always compare hair to a beautiful cotton blouse, once you wash it; it needs ironing to look good. Our hair is the same way sometimes. After washing it we probably need to blow dry or iron it to look our best.
Good Luck!

Product Reviews
I have naturally, slightly curly and frizzy hair. I’ve used several different straightening irons over the years, but the result has never been satisfactory. My hair would singe, my ends would split, and by the middle of the day the ends would be curling up again. The biggest problem was going out at night, because moisture in the air would make my hair frizzy; it ended up looking like I had never straightened it in the first place. I got the CHI as a birthday gift this year, and I have never been so impressed with a hair product. My hair is so incredibly straight, and I can stay outside all night without the slightest alteration in my hair. It straightens quickly and is so smooth it practically glides over my hair. It gets very hot, so be careful with your hands and ears as you straighten. My hair is smooth, silky, and SO SO straight! I highly recomment this product.
