Question: Is it important to examine the hair before any conditioning process?

Answer: The hair should be examined before any process, whether it is for conditioning by moisturizing or reconstructing with proteins and aminos to perms colors and bleaches. Anything and everything is deserving of proper analysis.

If I said it once, I said it a million times:

I can not stress enough the importance of a thorough examination. I am of the school of thought that believes you can not be safe enough. The condition of the hair and scalp should never be taken lightly if you want your processes to turn out correctly.

As a professional, you should always be aware of the following five factors.

    1. Form of hair – straight, wavy or curly
    2. length of hair- long, medium or short
    3. Texture of hair-coarse, medium, fine or very fine
    4. Shade of hair- natural, faded, streaked or gray
    5. Condition of hair-normal, brittle, dry or oily

If you really want to be the best hair stylist you can possibly be, don’t skimp out on these analysis. They will make your sacrifices worth every effort. You will be known through out the industry as the pro that pulled no punches, the great and reliable stylist that every one trusts.

    Other Success Secrets:

Keep record of every client, their process and the outcome. Always refer to their client card or chart before their appointment. This is a great habit and a success secret to client retention and faithfulness. Why? Because you’ll know exactly what your last experience and procedure was and hopefully how to improve it and the client history card should contain explicit notes that are pertinent and important to the client; birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and so on. This personal information will serve as great conversations and your client will always be impressed that you remembered.

    Product Reviews

Two months after I received a spiral perm, my thick, healthy hair began to fall out in large handfulls! I tried all of those high-priced salon products and then I bought this book. It is clearly written in an informative and lively style and I immediately went to my health food store and bought some of the herbs and essential oils recommended for my particular problem. The book has recipes for shampoos, herbal rinses and conditioners for every imaginable hair type or problem and it is SO EASY to do! I treat my hair every weekend and the difference now (2 months later)is AMAZING! I think my hair is actually better! I will have Fabulous hair from now on! This book has been a life saver!
