Question: How can I best analyze my client’s hair for certain chemical processes and treatments?

Answer: Dear Rebecca, That is a great question and a very important piece of information when deciding on what chemical and treatments best suit your client’s hair.

The first thing you must know when analyzing hair, is the client’s physical health. Are they healthy? Are they on any medication? Chemo therapy, Thyroid treatments, vitamin deficiencies, trauma, stress, and many other factors can affect the chemical process of any treatment and ultimately the out come.

Although the hair itself is made of protein and is a dead tissue, the follicle from which it grows is very much alive and gets its vitality from the blood that flows through the scalp. That is why the best hair treatments are the ones that are ingested, digested and metabolized in the body such as certain vitamins found in food and other sources.

When analyzing your client’s hair, ask them the questions that will give you a clear understanding of their health and life style. Explain to them if you must, the importance of these questions and the importance of the validity of the answers. Knowing these answers will give you a clear path to insuring the best treatments for your client.

Don’t forget to check the hair’s elasticity and porosity before any treatment or process. This is best done when the hair is wet. The scalps condition is also a very important to the process. Check for blisters or any other scalp condition before any process; curing an existing condition might be the first treatment they will need.
