Question: What causes hair loss and how can I avoid it?

Answer: Many things can result in hair loss; genetics being the leading one. The main reason for male baldness is the hormone named androgen; this is blamed for the typical male-pattern baldness. That same hormone also found in women causes a milder hair loss problem: hair thinning. Both males and females however are predisposed to the inevitable, age. Age and other factors such as styling, chemicals and heat can progress the loss of hair.

It’s important to keep in mind that a variety of hair loss problems can be avoided. Chemical treatment especially hair relaxers and perms are very detrimental to the hair follicle. Real tight pony tails also take their toll because of the constant pulling. Bad dieting also contributes to hair loss. Weight loss in it self does not cause hair loss. Your diet or what you don’t eat such as in inadequate nutrition is the factor for hair loss. Hair is 98 % protein, if the body lacks in said protein than the hair is kicked started into the resting stage. Hair falls out after about three month of rest that can result in a massive shedding.

Hair is lost when the hair follicles are destroyed. This destruction can come from medical treatments, like chemo and x-rays, physical trauma, diseases, parasites or even chronic hair pulling. Some hair loss results from dietary deficiencies, stress, drugs and simple abuse - whether in the form of debilitating hair styles (including pony tails and tight braids), tightly wrapping hair around rollers (especially with strong perm solutions) or excessive brushing. This sort of hair loss at least leaves the follicles intact and thus offers hope for treatment success.

    Product Reviews

This product works. One should expect mild hair growth in the crown area at best but markedly thickened hair. I have some thinned areas which were showing through revealing my scalp but were covered after using the laser comb. It also works well after hair transplants to thicken and color new growth. I’ve had 4 transplants and this is a nice adjunct. One can complete a treatment in 10 minutes easily. I suspect those that take longer are overlapping treatment and/or not spacing each movement far enough apart.
Midoxidil does work some in some people but is dissolved in an oily liquid that leaves a greasy residue and is a twice daily treatment. I would have to wash my hair after using this to get rid of flat oily looking hair. Propecia is a daily pill that can kill your sex drive. It killed mine and took a few months to reverse.
My experience; if you need to replace bare or baring areas your best bet is a hair transplant. Be prepared to get more transplants every few years. Minoxidil and propecia can grow some hair in some people but have side effects and the results go away if treatment is discontinued. Laser is about as effective as minoxidil/propecia but is much more user friendly and cheaper.
