Question: How does electrolysis remove hair and why does it sometimes leave a scar?

Answer: Electrolysis is the chemical decomposition of substances into their component parts by means of galvanic electricity.

An electrologist is some one that is professionally skilled and licensed in the removal of superfluous hair. Superfluous hair, medically called hypertrichosis, refers to abnormal or unsightly growth of hair.

Destroying origin of hair: hair can be permantaly removed by the destruction of the hair follicle and papilla with electric current. The needle is introduced into the follicle in order to decompose or dissolve the papilla of the hair, there by destroying the origin of the hair.

Scaring occurs when the wall of the follicle is penetrated with the needle, a slight burning sensation will be felt and a scar will result, the size of the scar is dependent apon the area of tissue affected by the current. Contact of long duration with too strong a current will likewise produce a scar.

It is important that the electrologist posses a steady hand and a keen eye.

    Product Reviews

I am the victim of many permanent hair removal scams and I am also a recipient of professionally applied laser, and diathermy hair removal so I consider myself a bit of a veteran. Of all the DIY permanent hair removal systems I believe this one is the only one that I would ever recommend. The similarities of this method are very similar to diathermy (which is the only permanent hair removal method with FDA approval). The sensation is very similar, not quite as intense, the trade off is that it lasts longer. The little sores that are left after the treatment are exactly the same and take the same time to heal. The exact same tweezing technique is used, and the hair regrowth rate appears to be about the same as well. Unfortunately there is a chance of scarring if you aren’t careful so read the instructions carefully and stick to them. It can be very tedious. My recommendation would be to get the area done professionally by diathermy and then use this to maintain it. The tweezers, whilst looking very professional are a bit hard to operate so spend a bit of money on a good set that are easier to use. My final advice; invest in some tea-tree oil antiseptic cream. It makes an amazing difference to the healing time and is very soothing as well.
