Question: I want to get the Katie Holmes hair cut (short bob with bangs) and it says that it is a good cut for round face shapes. But else where it says that bangs are not good on round faces? What is the truth?
Hi Dior,
Thanks so much for e-mailing in your question; a good one at that.
You know, I take issue with many hair stylist and hair professional that presume to have the ultimate opinions of what is right and wrong concerning hair styles and round shaped faces for that matter.
I know that there is a diametrical science to shapes, sizes and contours; to some degree but, can any one of us put a stamp on a personality or on enthusiasm? Can we bottle up joy and self assurance? How about isolating preference and individuality? I think not my friend…I think not.
I wrote an article not to long ago about feeling marvelous verses looking marvelous. There is a big difference between the two if you only possess the later. But if you are one of those blessed and fortunate individuals that can find beauty in yourself regardless of what the fashion industry might demand or regardless of what your friends might say and even regardless of what the mirror might reflect, than you are beautiful and the whole world wants to be like you.
Life is way to short to not indulge in what ever hair style you might fancy. Hair grows about 1 to 1 ½ inches a month. That means that you are only a few months away to a new DOO.
Now I don’t want to completely evade the question, I do want to give you some answer that might help you get some insight. You are right! There a two schools of thought concerning bangs and bobs and the round face. My good friend and very talented comrade Kelly O is notorious for her round face and short bobs with bangs and let me just add that she feels and looks marvelous all the time.
Just weigh your options and follow your hearts desire but most of all, be confident and joyful in your decision: this attitude will reflect like a bright and beautiful light that shines the way for many.
