Question: I have a long-layered hairstyle. My hair is about 15 inches from top of scalp to the bottom. My layers are throughout my hair. I have very thick hair. I would like to get my hair trimming to almost or all one length without trimming too much. What should I do?
Answer:
The best answer to your question is time, patience, and a trust worthy hair stylist that understands the difference between a small trim and a cut.
Layers are good for thick hair
Normally hair, especially thick heavy hair grows at a speed that can be measured in about 1/2 to 11/2 inches per month. Since you already have long layers (a style that I usually recommend for thick hair), it seems to me that it won’t be long before your hair reaches the length you want.
Trim the hair ends only
Ask your stylist to trim the ends off the ends of the length only and not the layers. A trim should be no more than 1/2 inch a month. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to keep the layers looking good since they won’t be trimmed for at least 6 months. Try not to use lotions or creams that contain alcohol so that your hair doesn’t over dry.
Most of all Rachel be patient because good things come to those who wait, Good Luck!
PS. If you want to eliminate the V look, trim an 11/2 every month for two or three months.
